Introduction to Carving with Jim Arnold

May 12, 2018

10:00a.m.-11:30a.m.

Bio:

Jim Arnold, a Urbana native, has returned to Champaign Urbana after many years living throughout the country.  Jim has been carving chess sets professionally since the mid 90's.  He used to take scrap wood home from construction sites he worked on to build chess sets.  After borrowing his boss' van to attend his very first show he quit the construction business the following Monday and only regrets not starting carving sooner.

Jim has made over 1,250 sets(over 32,000 pieces!) in his career and now that he's moved back to his home town he plans to start teaching again to share the craft and take people from true beginners all the way to master carvers!
